What is Project Dagger?

Project Dagger is similar to most retro FPS games where you'll make your way through 3 acts and 19 total levels. However, what differentiates Project Dagger from other games is the emphasis on narrative elements, quests, dialog, and the story of the world. I wanted levels to be unique, full of action, but also lived in. Rather than indiscriminately killing everything in your path you will also be tasked with uncovering the reason why these monsters are attacking you and the villages across the region.

Features

- Play through 3 Acts and 19 total levels, mushroom forests, dark decrepit prisons, abandoned haunted mineshafts, and much more.

- 15 different melee and ranged weapons including quirky and unusual ones to add to your arsenal, each weapon will have it's own utility and fun factor to make annihilating everything in your path satisfying.

- over 20 different enemies, whether it's a skeleton running into you with a TNT barrel, a one eyed flying demon shooting lasers at you, or just a zombie whose out for your blood there will be a ton of variety.

- 24 quests throughout the 3 acts will key you in on important events, timeline information, lore, and also craft a unique narrative experience.

History of the Project

So this project began as of today just one year ago. It started out as a gamejam project that was never submitted and evolved into a handful of different prototypes of different scopes but settling on the original idea of a retro FPS inspired by Project Warlock, Delver, and Dusk. I eventually settled on the original idea because of it's limited and realistic scope compared to trying to solo develop an entire open world RPG.

Currently I am a solo developer and have essentially done all of the art, modeling, coding, and animation all by myself in the last year. I've tinkered with Unity, pixel art, and modeling in the past for other projects so a lot of those skills transferred over into Project Dagger's development.

Current State of Project Dagger

Project Dagger is currently nearly complete, with roughly 2 months left in development for adding in weapons, levels, and plenty of testing to ensure it's Steam release goes as smooth as possible. I have a roadmap coming soon of what's to be added and the release schedule for after release. I plan on releasing Early Access and patching in content in acts, so early access will launch with Act 1 and then Act 2 and Act 3 will follow afterwards once they are polished and ready to go.

This game is at this moment still just a hobby project, I'm currently a full time college student and work part time as well so whatever free time I have left over goes into game development which is my true passion.

I plan on updating this thread as progress continues so be sure to follow along and thank you for checking out my devlog!
